G Sharp Harmonic Minor Piano Scale

Compton Piano StudioThe key of G sharp minor and B major are related and share the same key signature of 5 sharps, F sharp, C sharp, G sharp, D sharp and A sharp.  G sharp minor is known as the relative minor of B major; B major is known as the relative major of G sharp minor.

G sharp is the 6th note of the B major scale.  The 6th degree of any major scale is always the note which represents the related minor key.

As the keys of B major and G sharp minor are related to each other, they both share the same key signature of 5 sharps.  Therefore the scale of G sharp minor, in its most basic, natural form, will share exactly the same notes as B major but rather than beginning and ending on B (B major) will begin and end on G sharp (G sharp minor).

B major:  B     C sharp     D sharp     E     F sharp    G sharp    A sharp    B

G sharp natural minor:  G sharp   A sharp    B    C sharp    D sharp    E     F sharp    G sharp

To change the natural G sharp minor scale into the harmonic G sharp minor scale

Take the notes of the G sharp natural minor scale and raise the 7th degree, F sharp, by one semitone or half step to F double sharp.   There will still be 5 sharps, F sharp, C sharp, G sharp, D sharp and A sharp, in the key signature but now F double sharp will appear as an accidental on the music staff.

G Sharp Harmonic Minor Scale:

G sharp    A sharp    B     C sharp    D sharp   E     F double sharp    G sharp
